Often when a child is presenting with speech, language, and/or feeding difficulties, orofacial myofunctional disorders are present as well. Orofacial myofunctional disorders impact nasal breathing, digestion, attention, sleep, learning, and more.
What is oral motor or orofacial myofunctional therapy? Along with assessing for speech, language, and/or feeding during our speech therapy evaluations, we assess the structure and functioning of the oral cavity. This type of pediatric therapy approach targets nasal breathing, correct swallowing positioning, and oral rest posture.
Children that would benefit from orofacial myofunctional therapy may present with: mouth breathing during the day and night, snoring, waking up tired after a long nights rest, attention difficulties, and more.
Our speech pathologists specialize in providing oral motor and orofacial myofunctional therapy to young kids with open mouth posture, mouth breathing, tongue thrust and more.
We have pediatric speech pathologists that can provide oral motor and orofacial myofunctional evaluations and treatment in English and/or Spanish.
